Description

Villa for rent Provence for 10 people

What we like

Decor: the house is stunning enough to grace the pages of magazines and books on Provence.
Large Garden: three distinct areas, with visual beauty, seasonal produce, and room for children to run around.
Kitchen: a room you never tire of, it’s the lovingly assembled heart of the home.
Antiques: if you like antiques you will love this home, the owner is an antiques dealer who raids the markets of nearby L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue for treasures.

Things to note

Children: the house is full of beautiful objects so is not ideal for hyperactive children.
Pool safety: the pool is not fenced but has an alarm system. For small children extra care and supervision are advised.
Water features: there are two unprotected water features in the garden which are potential hazards for toddlers.
Caretaker: the caretaker/gardener for the house lives in a separate building on the property, so if there are any problems he is on hand to help.

Exterior

The house is set in 2.5 acres of beautifully tended land (10,000m2), arranged in three different areas. When you arrive, you pass through an alley of olive trees and lavender, past fruit trees, cypresses and a vegetable garden that yields tomatoes, summer vegetables and herbs. In front of the house is the formal garden with ancient plane trees, parterres of box hedges and roses, leading to the swimming pool. And then after the pool is the meadow in which the children can play.
There are various spots for sitting outside and taking in the beauty of the formal garden, as well as a dining table on the terrace to the side, by the kitchen.
In the lawned meadow are two water features: a fountain and a smaller water basin.
The house is set well back from a very quiet country road, which makes it a very peaceful setting. You go through a gated entrance at the road, and this leads to the large decorative gates at the house. There is secure parking for several cars

Pool

The pool is at the end of a gorgeous rose walk, along a rose-clad pergola, and measures 11m x 5.5m. The pool has roman steps, and an alarm for security.

Interior

Le Mas Le Thor is an amazing rental home whose owner is both an interior designer and antique dealer, and passionate about Provence style. Its interior is the result of decades of expertly browsing the antiques and bric-a-brac markets at nearby L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, to make a house that is both homely and extraordinary. In this house you are literally stepping into the pages of a magazine, as it has featured in several design and lifestyle publications.
Living Room: a large room with french doors out to the garden, full of character, antiques and beautiful objects. There is also TV/DVD and the house has WiFi internet.
Kitchen: the huge kitchen is the heart of the home, a stunning space for families to gather. As well as the lure of the old there is the convenience of the modern, with extra-large oven, 5-ring stove, dishwasher, two fridges, microwave. Next to the kitchen is the laundry room with washing machine.
Study/Library: alongside the living room is the study with piano, writing desk and club armchairs.
Guest Toilet: on the ground floor.

Bedrooms

The house sleeps 10 people in 6 bedrooms, with 4 bathrooms. There are 3 double bedrooms, one triple room, and 2 single rooms. One double bedroom and bathroom is on the ground floor.

On the ground floor:
Bedroom 1: with double bed, french doors to the garden and ensuite shower room with shower, basin and toilet.

On the first floor:

Amazingly beautiful property!
score

A group of ladies traveled to Provence and rented Mas Le Thor for a week. We have taken many trips to Europe and this house, by far, was the most incredible. From the beautiful grounds to the magnificent home, everything was perfect. The pictures of the house are exactly how it looks. We didn't want to stay in a place that looked American - we wanted to feel like we were in France. Needless to say, we couldn't have picked a better place. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals. The bedrooms are beautiful and the beds are also very comfortable! We rented a car to take day trips and all towns are easily accessible from the house. We brought a GPS with us that was loaded with France maps. I highly recommend this if you plan on driving through Provence. It made day trips very enjoyable. There is also a supermarket close by which is great because we cooked every night. The caretakers of the home are helpful and kind. All of my friends share my enthusiasm for this incredible home and we would highly recommend it to others who want to experience a beautiful holiday in Provence! Thank you Simon for your patience and great advice.

An Artists Paradise
score

A lovely peaceful charmingly shabby chic old Mas. The house is full of beautiful traditional antique furnituture, giving this beautiful home a wonderful atmosphere. We were two artists plus our husbands, and for an artist it was pure heaven, glorious garden, full of light and shade,, wonderful terraces and spots to sit outside and enjoy the feeling of peace and quiet. The lovely people helping in the house and garden could not have been more helpful. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who appreciates traditional old French style, tucked away far from the busy world, in a peaceful garden.

A spacious period country house with many original features.
score

Mas Le Thor is a beautiful property. The owner has amassed a fine period collection of furnishings and fittings, and objets d'art that enhance the general ambience of the house. Complementary with these are family photos and paintings depicting the history of the house and the family who have lived there. Our stay was during a very hot period, but there were always rooms available that were cooler, and with shade. The garden is similarly impressive. In particular two very large plane trees offer much shade, as well as other sympathetic planting throughout - with a variety of trees, roses, shrubs and herbs. The website photos do not do justice to the extent of the garden. There's plenty of room for individuals in a large family to find secluded spots. We spent many hours during our two week stay in the swimming pool, which is excellent and well maintained. Helpful and efficient staff make regular visits to clean, do the laundry and change the sheets. And a gardener is also regularly on site. The staff were always very helpful if we had any queries. They were patient with our halting French, and one lady spoke excellent English.
