Noves, Alpilles

15 kilometers from Avignon and Cavaillon, Noves, north of the Alpilles, is a pleasant little village that is both peaceful and lively. It is the ideal starting point to visit many sites and villages as there are many within a radius of 20 kilometers.

What makes this village special?

Noves remains known for its most famous resident, Laure de Noves, who, in the 14th century, was the object of the love of the Florentine poet Petrarch. The latter, who fell madly in love with the beauty, dedicated many sonnets to her. This love remained platonic because Laure de Noves was married and insensitive to the charm of the poet.

The village has kept some traces of its medieval past: its ramparts erected between the 12th and 14th centuries with the Porte d' Aurose , the Porte d'Agel and the Porte de l'Horloge, surmounted by a belfry from the 17th century. th century. From the 12th century, Noves has preserved the Sainte-Baudille church and the chapel of the Pénitents-Blancs, which now houses a media library.
