Located in the National Natural Parc of the Luberon at the foot of the Mont de Vaucluse the village of Roussillon is one of the most impressive villages in France. It is set in one of the largest ochre deposits in the world and famous for the quarries, it is named the “little Colarado”.
What makes this Village special
Its red, yellow and orange earth, in contrast with the lush green vegetation and blue skies makes this place magical and a pleasure to the eyes. They make paint from the ochres and you can visit the “Conservatoire des Ocres and pigments” and walk in the hills (wear dark shoes as the pigments can stain). The facades of the houses are painted with the ochres and illustrate the result you get with these paints. Of course many artists have been attracted here and you will find many workshops and galleires. Things to see: walking in the Ochres, the Conservatory, the clock-tower, the facades of the houses in the village…
