Saint-Paul-de-Vence is one of the most celebrated villages in France - a completely intact medieval settlement on a hilltop above the Var valley, fifteen kilometres from the coast, that has attracted artists, writers and art patrons since the 1920s. The Fondation Maeght just outside its walls is one of the great private modern art foundations in the world. The combination of village and foundation alone would justify a visit; the proximity of the coast means the day can be extended in any direction.

Its location makes the village an ideal base for exploring both the Riviera and the hinterland. Drive twenty minutes south to reach the beaches of Cagnes-sur-Mer, or head into the hills for walking trails and wine tasting in nearby Tourrettes-sur-Loup. The city of Nice, with its museums and Old Town markets, is less than half an hour away.
