Aups, Haut Var - Dracénie

Located in the Haut-Var at an altitude of 500 m, Aups is a village of character nestled at the foot of the Espiguières mountain, in the first foothills of the Alps. It was integrated into the Verdon regional natural park in 2000. This village is renowned for being the truffle capital.

What makes this village special?

As you walk through the village, you can admire superb old doors, ornate lintels, pretty medieval houses, charming squares adorned with old fountains, as well as beautiful sundials. The heritage of Aups includes some vestiges of the 11th century such as ramparts, the ruins of a fortified castle and a Gothic collegiate church. The village also has a clock tower dating from the 16th century, topped with its wrought iron campanile.

Aups has the third largest black truffle market in France, known for their extreme quality. This market takes place every Thursday between November and February. There is also a colorful Provençal market, every Wednesday and Saturday, offering local produce and crafts.

The village is the ideal starting point to spend a day at the sea, which is only 60 km away, or to reach a winter sports resort, 80 km away. The Sainte-Croix lake is 20 km away, it is possible to go there to swim on sunny days and enjoy the joys of canoeing or pedal boating. Or opt to go hiking, climbing or rafting, by going to the Gorges du Verdon!
