Orange in Provence is a beautiful city famed for its magnificent Roman heritage. The countryside is also lovely here, typically Provençal, dotted with old villages, and with natural parks close by.

What makes this village special?

Roman history. Orange’s Roman history is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. A must-see is the Theatre, which is considered one of the best-preserved Roman pieces in the world, and is famed for its exceptional acoustics. A great venue for concerts today. The Triumphal Arch is also impressive, standing at around 60 feet in height and featuring decorative carvings. Medieval history. An undoubted highlight is the Notre-Dame Cathedral, which dates to the 1100s, although this structure is founded on a church as old as the 300s. It’s a stunning example of Romanesque architecture. Also notable is the Church of Saint-Florent, dating to the 1300s and houses The Virgin and Child, by F. Girardon de Troyes, a celebrated 17th Century panting.
