Crillon le Brave, Mont Ventoux
Wat maakt deze plaats zo speciaal
Crillon-le-Brave is one of the most famous small villages in provence, with little more than a cafe and restaurant, but it’s one with some interesting history, and many of its older buildings in an excellent state of preservation. The town’s castle dates to the 1400s and is today a hotel. From the outside you can see its two main defensive towers. Crillon-le-Brave is set near the heart of an important wine-growing region. It’s a short way from here to Châteuneuf-du-Pape or Ventoux, where you’ll find numerous vineyards and wineries, ranging from small family businesses to large Chateaux. When it comes to outdoor activities you will be in an ideal spot. The terrain is especially suited to mountain biking, with the Mont Ventoux being a destination of choice for many riders. Bike rental is available close by should you require it. Alternatively you could see a little more of the delightful landscape on foot, with vineyards and olive groves in abundance. There are a number of important historical towns not far from Crillon-le-Brave. Particularly close is Carpetras, home to a stunning historical centre. Further southwest is Avignon, the historical portion of which is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and contains the Palais des Papes, considered one of the most beautiful buildings in all of Europe.
