Touring the centre of town is a real treat, as the medieval old town has so many attractions and important historical sites that it has been listed as a protected historical centre. The Castle of the Ducs d’Uzes, King’s Towers and the Cathedral of St Theodorit are among the most impressive sites to explore from a holiday rental villa in Uzes, France. The incredible Roman aqueduct is an extraordinary feat of engineering, even by today’s standards, and is best viewed from the delightful river beaches which lie just outside the town. Wednesdays and Saturdays see Uzes spring into life with the arrival of the market, which is the best place to buy truffles, Duche d’Uzes wines, and olives especially. The Saturday market is cited as the most colourful and exciting in the whole of southern France.


Uzes is located in a magnificently rural region of Languedoc-Roussillon. The Cevennes Mountains, and the Cevennes National Park in particular, are stunning landscapes, perfect for walking, hiking, horse riding, mountain biking and rock climbing holidays. The oak forests that carpet much of the area provide many fantastic routes for walking and riding, protecting walkers from the summer sun. The Gorges du Gardon are beautifully dramatic, especially if you are exploring them with from the river in the bottom with the use of a canoe.

During this period, average monthly temperatures stay above 20°C, with peak temperatures well into the mid 30’s (°C) common during June, July and August. Summer temperatures remain wonderfully warm long into the evening, ideal for eating outside as the sun goes down over the mountainous horizon.

Although Nimes Airport (FNI) is tiny, there are a surprising number of flights arriving from the UK. Ryanair have the monopoly on flights to Nimes, providing services from the East Midlands (EMA), Liverpool (LPL) and London Luton (LTN).
