Château de Beaucastel

Mont Ventoux > Courthézon

A LIVING LANDSCAPE

At Beaucastel, the vineyard unfolds like a living landscape—130 hectares bathed in light, with 100 hectares rooted in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.

The soil is both rare and captivating: a layer of galets roulés resting upon ancient marine molasse. Each stone, each vine, carries within it the strength of the Rhône and the quiet wisdom of time.

NATURE IN ITS PUREST EXPRESSION

Here, nature reveals its full intensity—both demanding and generous. The Mistral sweeps through the vines, preserving their health and vitality. Scorching days give way to cool nights, and this striking contrast shapes wines of depth, balance, and remarkable elegance.

Low, gnarled vines, trained close to the earth, stand resilient against the elements, embodying the quiet nobility that defines Beaucastel.

A RARE AMPELOGRAPHIC HERITAGE

Across these historic hectares, the 13 emblematic grape varieties of Châteauneuf-du-Pape flourish in harmony: Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Vaccarèse, Counoise, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc and Roussanne.

Each year, Famille Perrin carefully renews this living heritage, replanting one or two hectares after a decade of fallow. A patient, deliberate approach that preserves the vitality of the vineyard while honouring the passage of time.

A LEGACY THROUGH TIME

The story begins in 1549, when Pierre de Beaucastel acquired a simple barn in Coudoulet. Within a few decades, the estate had evolved into an elegant manor house, adorned with the family’s coat of arms carved in stone. In 1687, its history took on a royal dimension when Louis XIV appointed one of his descendants, also named Pierre de Beaucastel, as “Captain of the Town of Courthézon.” This distinction, formalized in a letter signed by the King and his minister Colbert, marked the estate’s enduring place in history.

A RENEWED VISION

Centuries later, in 1909, Pierre Tramier acquired the estate and breathed new life into it. He later entrusted it to his son-in-law, Pierre Perrin, a man of science and exacting standards, who laid the foundations of modern Beaucastel. His work was carried forward by Jacques Perrin, a visionary whose name remains synonymous with excellence and winemaking mastery, shaping the estate until 1978.

A FAMILY STORY

Today, Jean-Pierre and François Perrin, Jacques’ sons, continue this legacy with the same passion and dedication, joined by the fifth generation—Marc, Pierre, Thomas, Cécile, Charles, Matthieu, and César. At Beaucastel, wine is inseparable from family. Transmission is not merely a value—it is an art form. Respect for the land, commitment to biodynamic practices, and the constant pursuit of balance, truth, and elegance are woven into every generation, every vintage, every expression.

MORE THAN AN ESTATE

Beaucastel is more than a vineyard—it is a living atmosphere. One of quiet nobility, of craftsmanship passed down like a closely held secret. A place where time, nature, and human hands come together to create wines of enduring character.
