Château de Mille
Château de Mille, considered one of the oldest winegrowing estates in the Luberon, covers around 100 hectares, including 25 hectares of vines, between Apt and Bonnieux.
Since 2018, the estate has been taken over by Constance and Lawrence Slaughter, who have embarked on a program to restructure the vineyards and modernize the facilities, while leading the restoration of the château.
The vineyard is farmed organically, with a focus on preserving the natural heritage and expressing the terroir. The estate can also be visited as part of wine tourism activities, allowing visitors to discover the site and the wines produced on site.
The Château de Mille vineyard benefits from a special location in the eastern Rhône Valley. The altitude and air currents coming from the Alps, notably via the Durance and Calavon rivers, bring freshness and influence the ripening of the grapes.
The estate is run biodynamically, with practices designed to reinforce the natural balance of the vines. These methods contribute to the quality of the grapes and the expression of terroir in the wines.
The plots, mostly north-facing, are planted on a wide variety of soils, including limestone scree, Urgonian limestone, Miocene and Oligocene formations, as well as sandy-clay soils. This geological variety contributes to the complexity of the wines.
The terroir has also been analyzed by specialists, highlighting the qualitative potential of these limestone soils and their role in the structure and balance of the cuvées produced on the estate.
