At the heart of the triangle formed by Nîmes, Uzès and Avignon, this small village inherited the name of the famous bridge-aqueduct which is located in its town. Vers-Pont-du-Gard is a lively place of life throughout the year thanks to its shops and craftsmen. And a true haven of peace and greenery nestled in the scrubland which offers many and varied activities.

What makes this village special?

When visiting Vers-Pont-du-Gard, you can admire the houses, all built of Vers stone, a material used in Roman times, which gives this pretty ocher color to the facades. La Maison de la Pierre offers a circuit of a few kilometers to discover the history of this stone, up to the quarries still in operation today.

In the town, you can admire the Clock Tower, the Saint-Pierre church, from the 12th century, with its murals, statuary and paintings. Vers-Pont-du-Gard is fed by springs which gave rise to three remarkable water points: the Grand Font, Font d'Izière and Misserand washhouses with the frog fountain built in the 19th century.

The market takes place on Saturday morning, Place des Platanes. The village produces a wine, the côteaux-du-pont-du-gard, which must be tasted if you are an amateur.

As you will have understood, the main attraction of the village is its famous bridge! Located 4 kilometers from the town and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this monumental building, built in the 1st century AD by the Romans and 49 meters high, is the most beautiful Roman aqueduct bridge in the world! Arranged in an ecological, playful and educational way, the visit of the site will delight young and old alike. On this same site, in the Gorges du Gardon, the Château de Saint-Privat is open to the public in summer. Built in the Middle Ages but remodeled over the centuries, this exceptional estate has a magnificent interior courtyard, a park planted with hundred-year-old trees and sumptuous gardens: one in the French style, with fountains, ponds and statues, and the other in English. For a refreshing break!

Many trails invite you to hike, and if you like water, swimming, fishing and water sports such as canoeing or kayaking will delight you as much as they will refresh you. The beaches on the banks of the Gardon are very pleasant. Swimming there with the Pont du Gard in the background is a unique experience!
