Vence, Cote d'Azur / French Riviera

Not far from Nice and Antibes, this medieval town in the hinterland attracted many artists in the 20th century. Perched on hills planted with orange and olive trees, the city enjoys an exceptional panorama of the sea and the mountains. We love Vence for its mild climate, its colors and its old village.

What makes this village special?

Many artists have found inspiration in Vence! These include, among others, Marc Chagall, Jean Dubuffet, André Gide and Paul Valéry. The most famous remains Henri Matisse who lived there between 1943 and 1949 and designed the famous Chapel of the Rosary there, one of his masterpieces and a delight for the eyes! You cannot leave Vence without having visited it. This is the first time in France that a painter has created a building in its entirety, from the architecture to the furniture and the stained glass windows! Art lovers will enthusiastically discover some forty studios and art galleries scattered around the city. Do not miss the very famous Chave gallery, the oldest! The old Château de Villeneuve has become a museum of contemporary art which is also worth a visit!

The old village enjoys an enchanting setting. It is good to stroll through the alleys that lead to small squares, with fountains here and there, and to stop for a well-deserved break on the terrace of one of the many restaurants. Every morning, the small market in Surian Square offers something to stock up on local products, a very pleasant stopover for the senses.

In summer, Vence offers literary events, classical music and jazz concerts and traditional festivals. The Festival des Nuits du Sud is the highlight of the summer. Rap, funk, French chanson or reggae, there's something for everyone!

The most athletic can indulge in their favorite activity: swimming pool, tennis, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, walking, horseback riding or cycling...

A stone's throw from Vence, art lovers will not miss a visit to the famous Maeght Foundation. This heavenly place contains one of the most important collections of modern art in Europe!

There is definitely no shortage of activities in Vence!
