Lovers of old stones will have a blast!

The Saint-Théodorit cathedral is the most symbolic monument of Uzès with the Duchy, the castle of the Dukes of Uzès. Rebuilt in 1652, in neo-Romanesque style, it has a round tower with windows, the Fenestrelle tower, a sort of Lombard-style campanile 42 meters high. The set is magnificent!

Adjoining the cathedral, the former bishopric, which dates from the 17th century, is a magnificent building which now houses the Georges-Borias museum. Its collections offer a journey to discover the history of Uzège, and writers linked to the city, in particular Jean Racine and André Gide. An entire room is devoted to the latter, exhibiting manuscripts, illustrated editions, portraits and memorabilia.

On the other side of the Alzon, you can contemplate the remains of the incredible Roman aqueduct.

But the visit not to be missed is that of the Duchy, located in the heart of the city. This imposing building, which dates back to the 12th century, has retained its keep, ramparts and corner towers and has a splendid Renaissance façade and a Gothic chapel. Entering this castle is like taking a real trip back in time. We discover almost thousand-year-old cellars, an exceptional view from the top of the keep and apartments still inhabited by the ducal family.

Another rather singular and very interesting visit is that of the Medieval Garden. Created in 1995 in the heart of the city, it lists the uses and virtues of plants in the Middle Ages. This botanical space brings together 400 varieties of food, medicinal, textile or dye plants as well as cereals. The place also hosts cultural events and art exhibitions throughout the year. After this visit, continue the walk by climbing the 100 steps of the King's Tower, and admire the incredible view over the rooftops of Uzès!
