Mazan, Mont Ventoux

At the foot of Mont Ventoux, 5 kilometers from Carpentras, this small town has many vineyards and orchards. It is also the land of truffles. It benefits from an interesting historical heritage and its surroundings are full of paths that invite you to discover this countryside so typical of Provence.

What makes this townspecial?

A walk in the heart of the city, accessible by the monumental gates, following the Auzon, the small river which crosses it, allows you to discover its treasures. Mazan has retained part of its 12th and 14th century ramparts . From the same period, the Notre-Dame de Pareloup chapel is worth the detour: it houses works by the sculptor Jacques Bernus, a local child.

The cemetery is also a place of interest: it is surrounded by stone sarcophagi from the 6th and 7th centuries, which once lined the ancient Carpentras-Mormoiron road. Mazan has preserved beautiful residences such as the Hotel de Valette, the castle of the Marquis de Sade, which has become a four-star hotel and the castle of Astaud-Causans, residence of the first co-lords of the city. The Chapel of the White Penitents, from the 17th century, houses a folk museum presenting the various aspects of traditional rural life of yesteryear

Wine lovers can stop at the Domaine de Fondrèche to visit the vineyard and the cellar.

The most sporty will leave, on foot or by bike, to discover the surroundings thanks to the 150 kilometers of paths around Mazan.

Finally, the herb market on Monday morning and that of producers, every Saturday morning from April to October invite you to discover local products.
