Les Taillades - 1

Les Taillades, Luberon

At the foot of the Luberon mountain, the village of Taillades, which takes its name from its old quarries where stone was cut, is worth the detour. It is one of the first perched villages on the way out of Cavaillon with breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside. For lovers of calm and greenery.

What makes this village special?

The visit of the old village does not leave insensitive. Don't miss Morvelous
(the "brat"), a bas-relief carved in the heart of the rock, representing Saint Véran, first bishop of Cavaillon who rid the Luberon of the horrible Coulobre, a dragon who terrorized the region. On rocky promontories, the 18th century church and the village tower dominate the town and enjoy an exceptional view of the quarries, the Luberon and the plain, from Cavaillon to Mont Ventoux.

The walk along the Carpentras canal leads to the Saint-Pierre mill with its incredible paddle wheel, the largest in the department, a symbol of the village's industrial past. The mill was built in the 19th century for the production of madder before moving to flour. It is in the courtyard of the mill that the events take place which bring together a large public each summer. The old quarries now house a natural theater where you can attend dance performances, plays or concerts.

The best way to discover the area around Les Taillades is to take the path that leaves from the school car park and leads to the Roche Ronde, a magnificent rock that overlooks the village. Another path leads to the Badarel gorges. Little known, they are really worth the detour. At the top, the view is breathtaking.
