L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Luberon

Just 20 kilometers from Avignon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a charming riverside village. This charming city, which is nicknamed the "Comtadine Venice", leaves no one indifferent. Renowned for its antiques, it is a paradise for bargain hunters. Thanks to its markets, it also attracts all gourmets!

What makes this town special?

It is the Sorgue which crosses the city and which gives it this very particular atmosphere. Take the time to stroll through the center, admire sublime mansions, paddle wheels, installed during the industrial revolution in the 19th century. The river then provided the energy to activate seventy of them. And the Notre-Dame-des-Anges collegiate church, the most decorated church in Vaucluse.

The city has acquired a reputation that goes beyond our borders as far as antiquities are concerned. It is today the third largest European center for the antiques trade after London and Paris! Flea markets regularly enliven the city. Many second-hand and antique dealers live there and have gathered in “antique dealer villages”, which are a paradise for walkers and bargain hunters. Four dates are to remember if you are in the area and you like to hunt: Easter, Pentecost, August 15 and All Saints. The city is then invaded by enthusiasts from all over the world!

La Venise comtadine is full of restaurants and cafes, but also art and decoration shops. It is really good to stroll there and to come back is a pleasure!

The Sunday morning market is one of the liveliest and most colorful in the region. It allows you to spend a very friendly moment while shopping!

If you are around on the first Sunday of August, don't miss the floating market, where producers sell their local products on flat-bottomed boats, and give the city a little Asian air!

Canoeing and swimming in the river are popular activities in the area. A great way to cool off on hot summer days.
