Gordes, Luberon

In the heart of the Vaucluse mountains, Gordes is a perched Provençal village, ranked among the most beautiful in France, whose charm immediately affects the visitor. Entirely built in dry stone, it shines with a thousand lights under the morning sun and offers a breathtaking view of the Luberon forests.

What makes this village special?

The village is an old settlement, whose houses, barns and dry stone walls have stood the test of time. A walk in the cobbled streets allows you to discover ancient doors, vaults, a sundial, fountains and flat stone walls, while enjoying a panorama of incredible beauty. In the center of Gordes stands the imposing 10th century fortress castle, which was renovated during the Renaissance. It houses the town hall and hosts a large number of exhibitions, especially in the summer. Don't miss the Saint-Firmin church, built in the 18th century on the site of a medieval church. And don't forget to visit the cellars of the Palais Saint-Firmin, a semi-troglodyte site listed as a historical monument. This place will transport you to the Middle Ages!

The weekly market, which takes place every Tuesday morning, is the best place to buy local delicacies. The wines of the Côtes du Ventoux are always a great discovery! A Wine and Olive Oil Festival, at the beginning of August, is the ideal time to discover local products, while enjoying many activities.

Bucolic walks and many mountain bike trails are accessible from the village. There are well marked trails through the forests and hills that surround Gordes. One of the best remains the 8 kilometer loop in the valley below Gordes, where the Abbey of Sénanque is hidden.

On foot or by car, this 12th century Cistercian monastery is a high place of spirituality not to be missed under any circumstances! 4 kilometers from the village, it is still active and can be visited. The monks offer for sale the products of the hive, the liqueurs and the products derived from the lavender in their care. Everything is delicious! And if you find yourself in the area between June 20 and July 10, you will have the chance to admire the lavender fields in bloom!
