A beach day in Sainte-Maxime is not simply a matter of finding a patch of sand.
It is a considered exercise in pleasure: the right sun lounger, the right glass of rosé, the right plate arriving at exactly the right moment. The stretch of coast from La Croisette to La Nartelle is home to some of the finest beach restaurants on the Golfe de Saint-Tropez, ranging from easygoing neighbourhood spots with open-fire kitchens to full beach club experiences with rooftop bars and DJ evenings. All five below are addresses our team recommends without reservation. Whether you are spending a week in a holiday villa in Provence and looking for somewhere to anchor a long summer day, or simply passing through and in need of an honest lunch with a view, this is the guide you need.
Les P’tits Galets | Open-fire cooking on La Croisette
Opened in 2022 on La Croisette beach, directly opposite the Jardin Botanique des Myrtes, Les P’tits Galets has moved quickly from promising newcomer to one of the most warmly reviewed beach restaurants on the gulf. Gordon and Nadège lead a team that has built a genuine following through a combination of attentive service, an eco-conscious ethos, and a kitchen that takes its work seriously.
The cooking revolves around open-fire and brazier techniques: meats and fish cooked over embers, with a menu that shifts with the seasons and the market. Fresh fish and shellfish are central to the offer, arriving from local suppliers and landing on the plate with the kind of simplicity that only confidence in the ingredient allows. The setting gives you a choice: dine with your feet in the sand or take a table on the wooden terrace with a direct view across to Saint-Tropez. Neither option disappoints. Les P’tits Galets is open from late March to early October. Booking in advance is advised during peak summer weeks.
Le WYC & Le P’tit WYC | Two sides of La Nartelle’s finest beach
The WYC has been a fixture on La Nartelle beach since 2007, and its longevity says everything you need to know about the quality of the experience on offer. Two distinct venues sit side by side at the entrance to Sainte-Maxime on this long crescent of fine sand, each with its own character and each worth understanding before you book.
Le WYC is the main restaurant and beach club: a refined setting with valet parking, a boat pick-up service for those arriving from the water, and a kitchen that produces carefully considered Mediterranean cooking. Wild fish changes daily on the board, the salmon tartare has a devoted following, the Petits Farcis are a particular point of pride, and the Cotes de Provence rosé arrives cold and exactly as it should. The atmosphere is polished but unpretentious, and the team handles families as well as it handles a table for two celebrating something special.
Le P’tit WYC next door occupies a more casual register: poke bowls, falafel, burgers, and fresh salads, with a menu that leans into the healthy, the quick, and the vibrant. It is a strong choice for those with younger children or for a lighter lunch between swims. Both venues share the same stretch of beach and the same standard of service. A good rule of thumb: if you are making a day of it and want a proper meal, book Le WYC. If you want something easy, colourful, and relaxed, Le P’tit WYC is the answer.
La Voile | Where the Golfe de Saint-Tropez looks its finest from the table
La Voile occupies a position at the western end of La Nartelle beach that its regulars will tell you cannot be improved upon. The great coloured sail canopies that give the restaurant its name are visible from the road, and the dining room beneath them is one of the most elegant beach settings in the area: lounge chairs and parasols on fine sand, a sea-view terrace with well-spaced tables, and the kind of atmosphere that rewards those who arrive without any particular agenda and leave considerably later than planned.
Part of the Aurora Group, La Voile is owned by Bernard and Anne, who have cultivated a loyal clientele over many years through a combination of genuine hospitality and a kitchen that takes its seasonal produce seriously. Grilled sea bass and John Dory are the signatures; the lobster pasta has its devotees; and the daily fish suggestions, which change depending on what the market offers that morning, are always worth asking about. The wine list is compact but well chosen, with Domaine Ott and Barbeiranne among the Provençal selections.
On summer evenings, La Voile hosts Bohème Chic aperitif evenings on the beach, with cocktails, DJ sets, and a relaxed festive atmosphere under the stars. It is a particular pleasure for guests staying in a luxury villa in Provence looking for an evening that begins at the water and takes its time ending. Valet parking is available. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner in season, with reduced hours outside of July and August.
Barco Beach | Fusion cooking, a rooftop Sun Bar & the best sunsets on La Nartelle
Also on La Nartelle beach at number 57, Barco Beach is the creation of the Barroilhet family, and it bears the hallmarks of a place built by people who genuinely love what they do. The welcome is warm, the beach service is attentive, and the rooftop Sun Bar, with its panoramic view across the gulf, is one of the finest spots for a sundowner in the whole of Sainte-Maxime.
The kitchen here is more adventurous than most beach restaurants on the coast. The chef draws from a wide range of influences, and the result is a fusion menu with Asian and Latin American accents alongside the expected Provençal mainstays: fresh fish, exotic salads, ceviche, and the plancha-grilled meats and seafood that have become something of a signature. The crab salad in particular has earned regular mentions from returning guests, many of whom have been coming back for years. Below the rooftop, a second Beach Bar keeps the cocktails coming throughout the afternoon. Barco Beach is open from February to mid-November, one of the longest seasons of any beach restaurant in Sainte-Maxime. Valet parking available. Children’s activities are provided on the beach. Reservations are recommended for lunch and dinner.
La Nartelle beach is, in the considered opinion of those who know this coastline well, among the finest stretches of sand on the entire Golfe de Saint-Tropez: sheltered, clean, and long enough that it never feels overcrowded even at the height of summer. The five beach restaurants above are the best reasons to spend a full day there.
