At Château de Saint Martin, a 12th-century underground cellar dug into the rock by the monks of Lérins welcomes visitors to discover the estate.
A twenty-minute audio-visual tour retraces the history of Provence, the winegrowing priory and the family that has shaped the estate over the centuries. This introduction provides a better understanding of the evolution of the estate and its roots in the region.
The tour continues in an interactive museum space dedicated to spirits. A self-guided tour guides visitors through several cabinets of curiosities, presenting objects and information related to spirits from Provence and other regions.
The whole offers an accessible approach to discovering both the history of the place and the traditions associated with spirits production.
At Château de Saint-Martin in Taradeau, the site's history is central to its identity. Occupied since prehistoric times, the site took on an important dimension in Gallo-Roman times, with the construction of a vast architectural complex covering some ten thousand square meters, still visible today.
The site is considered one of the few rural examples in the Var region to have been continuously occupied for several centuries. This continuity bears witness to the interest shown in the terroir and its viticultural potential as far back as antiquity.
After the Merovingian period, monks settled on the estate and founded a winegrowing priory. Their legacy includes an underground cellar, still used today for events and receptions.
This cellar is distinguished by its architecture, with a basket-handle vault, double openings and particularly regular stonework, reminiscent of ancient construction techniques.
