What We Love
A lived-in home, not a decorated one. Built on top of a Roman cistern, the house has never been unoccupied. Its owners spend a few weeks there each year and open it to the public the rest of the time: the furniture comes from auction houses, the books have been read, and the ceramics and paintings belong to a private collection. Nothing here has been staged for the camera—and that’s precisely what draws people here.
Two hectares, no neighbors in sightYou arrive via a 200-meter dirt road lined with wild rosemary and thyme. All around: the forest, truffle oaks, lavender fields, Mont Ventoux, and the Dentelles de Montmirail on the horizon. The nearest house is two kilometers away. On full-moon nights, you can hear the wolves. And yet Grignan is just a quarter of an hour away, the Montélimar TGV station fifteen minutes away, and Avignon and Uzès forty-five minutes away.
Enough to fill a day without ever leaving the property: eggs from the henhouse upon waking, figs and quinces from the orchard, koi carp in the pond, and the herb garden for the evening meal. Then there’s the pool, table tennis in the shade, the Bonzini foosball table, the music room—piano, drums, guitars—the vinyl records, and pétanque at cocktail hour.
What You’ll Find Upon ArrivalA welcome basket: olive oil from the neighbor, hand-harvested; lavender oil from the estate; a bottle of wine. A selection of artisanal wines, offered at wine shop prices. An app that lists markets, producers, restaurants, and walking, running, and biking routes that the family uses themselves. And Umberto, the caretaker, who lives in the neighboring village, knows the region better than a guide and takes care of whatever needs to be done.

The pool is secured by an electric cover, but children must remain under adult supervision.
The property can also be rented in a smaller configuration—7 bedrooms, accommodating up to 18 people—without the Annex.
The estate does not host weddings, parties, or events.

Exterior
Two hectares of hillside garden, laid out around the house: the terrace and its pergola, the outdoor kitchen with its barbecue, a long table where sixteen people can dine comfortably, the herb gardens, the orchard—fig and quince trees— the chicken coop, the pond with water lilies and koi carp, soccer goals for the children, a pétanque court, and a covered ping-pong area. The landscaped parking area features two electric vehicle charging stations.
Beyond the garden lies nothing but the forest, truffle oaks, and lavender—including deer, wild boars, hares, and birds.
Pool
A large swimming pool, heated upon request, that blends into the landscape rather than being an addition to the garden. Sun loungers and shady spots surround it, with the valley and the hilltop villages across the way. In the late afternoon, this is the spot from which to watch the light fade over the hills.
Pool heating availability and pricing
Pool heating is available throughout the entire rental period, €200 /week.
Interior
Five hundred eighty square meters in the main house, including a 100-square-meter vaulted room: a monumental fireplace surrounded by sofas, a large table, a turntable and its vinyl records, and a Bulthaup kitchen. A second, more functional kitchen for actual meal preparation. A music room, a TV lounge, a game room with a Bonzini foosball table, a study-library—Twombly, Kiefer, Penone, poetry, the classics, the NYRB, and Noble Rot—and two additional restrooms.
On the walls, paintings by Jérémy Liron, Sterling Ruby, and Médard Verbrugghe; in the display cases, ceramics by Jean Girel and Kristin McKirdy. With the exception of the beds and sofas, almost nothing was bought new.
Le Marronnier, adjacent to the main house and next to the herb garden, is completely self-contained: kitchen, living room, dining table, and coffee maker. Recently renovated with great care, it is perfectly suited for a couple or a small family as part of a larger group.
L’Annexe, also adjoining the main house, has everything needed for self-contained living: a kitchenette, living room, fireplace, and dining table. It hasn’t been redecorated in a long time and has a simpler charm than the other two houses.
Bedrooms
The property accommodates up to 22 guests in 9 bedrooms, spread among the main house, the Marronnier, and the Annex. The five bedrooms in the main house each have their own bathroom; the Marronnier and the Annex each have one bathroom for their two bedrooms.
