Opio Valbonne Golf Resort
Located between Grasse, Cannes and Nice, the Opio Valbonne Golf Resort is set within a protected estate of over two hundred and twenty hectares. Its position between the coast and the hinterland makes it a practical base for exploring the Côte d’Azur.
A historic course in a natural setting
The eighteen-hole course runs through gently undulating terrain, shaded by mature trees. An ancient Gallo-Roman aqueduct crosses the estate, adding a historical dimension to the landscape.
Recognised as one of the long-established golf courses in the south of France, the layout combines accessibility with a setting shaped by its natural surroundings.
A complete resort experience
The resort includes the Château de la Bégude, a hotel with thirty-nine rooms, alongside a brasserie, spa and swimming pool. These facilities allow guests to combine golf with accommodation and relaxation in one location.
The setting brings together golf, heritage and the surrounding landscape of the Riviera’s inland region.
THE ORIGINS OF OPIO VALBONNE GOLF CLUB
The golf course originally opened on nine July nineteen sixty-six under the name “Valbonne”. At the time, its founder chose this name due to administrative challenges with the neighbouring commune of Opio, despite most of the Domaine de la Bégude being located there.
In nineteen eighty-six, Jacques Courtignon, then managing the hotel and golf club, clarified the estate’s legal status and re-established relations with the Opio authorities. Following this, the club adopted the name Opio-Valbonne.
During the early years, Simone Bussoz oversaw the interior arrangements, including the addition of a snack bar and refreshment area. The hotel itself was not yet operational, as the guest rooms were still under construction.
