Domaines Ott⋆
Côte d'Azur / French Riviera > La Londe-les-Maures
In search of his first vineyard, Marcel Ott, a young Alsatian agronomist, journeyed as far as the sun-scorched landscapes of Algeria. It was ultimately in Provence—captivated by its light, its beauty, and the gentle presence of the Mediterranean—that he chose to settle in 1896, encouraged by his wife Elisabeth.
Patiently, he came to understand the depth and complexity of this historic terroir before acquiring Château de Selle in 1912. With a clear and ambitious vision, he began shaping the estate with precision and care, determined to reveal the full nobility of Provençal wines. Clos Mireille and Château Romassan would later follow, developed with the same unwavering commitment to excellence.
A pioneer of his time, Marcel Ott introduced a philosophy rooted in respect—for the land, for the vine, and for time itself. Low yields, meticulous craftsmanship, and a deep connection to nature became the foundation of a signature style: to do less, but to do it better. A vision that continues to resonate today.
In 1932, this vision took on a new form. Marcel entrusted his son René with the creation of a bottle that would embody the spirit of Provence. Inspired by the region’s cypress trees and ancient amphorae, its silhouette remains an enduring icon—instantly recognisable, unmistakably Ott.
Today, the Ott family continues this legacy with the same dedication: crafting rosé, white, and red wines of precision and elegance, each expressing a distinct facet of Provence through its terroir and microclimate.
From Marcel to Jean-François Ott, four generations have guided the estates, each embodying a singular vision of the vine and of wine. With care and conviction, every generation has preserved time-honored practices while embracing innovation and research. A delicate balance between tradition and modernity, rooted in a responsible and sustainable approach. Driven by a constant pursuit of quality—and the humility that comes from working in harmony with nature—Domaines Ott⋆ has always engaged in a meticulous exploration of its three terroirs, among the most beautiful and best preserved in Provence. Every decision is guided by a single purpose: to preserve the vitality of the soils, reveal the authenticity of each terroir, and craft the finest wines of Provence. A NATURAL APPROACH TO VITICULTURE Cultivated with absolute respect for both soil and vine, the three estates embody a model of natural viticulture. Each parcel, shaped with infinite patience—carved into terraces and restanques—offers an ideal setting for grapes of remarkable concentration, the foundation of great wines. Carefully orchestrated fallow periods allow the soil to rest, regenerate, and regain its full vitality. HANDCRAFTED AT EVERY STEP In this relentless pursuit of excellence, every detail matters. Around forty dedicated men and women tend the vineyards each day, their precise, thoughtful gestures reflecting expertise passed down through generations, enriched by a continuous spirit of innovation. From planting to gentle pruning, from debudding to harvest, manual work is ever-present, in deep respect of the vine’s natural rhythm. This commitment is also reflected in time: 600 hours of work per hectare each year, compared to a regional average of 200 to 300 hours. Over the course of a single growing cycle, each vine is visited 47 times by a member of the team—an unwavering dedication to observing and responding to the unique needs of every parcel. MINIMAL INTERVENTION, MAXIMUM PRECISION At Domaines Ott, winemaking is the natural extension of the meticulous care devoted to the vineyard—an ode to the richness of Provençal terroirs. Under the expert guidance of our cellar masters, processes are intentionally low-intervention yet highly exacting, preserving the true essence of the fruit in its purest expression. Temperature control, gravity-fed systems, and extended ageing all contribute to the precision, elegance, and distinctive character of each cuvée.
