What makes La Londe special?
The coastline around La Londe is split between sandy beaches and rocky inlets. The Plage de l'Argentière and the Plage du Pellegrin are among the finest in the area - long, relatively quiet and with clear water. The beach clubs here are unpretentious and focused on good food and the pleasure of the sea rather than on presentation. La Londe produces wine under its own sub-appellation within the Côtes de Provence, and the vineyards on the slopes of the Maures behind the town are worth visiting. The Domaine de l'Argentière is the most established, but several smaller estates are opening to visitors and the standard of the rosé is consistently high. The botanical garden at Rayol - the Domaine du Rayol - is a short drive along the coast towards Cavalaire and is one of the finest gardens in France. Set on clifftops above a small beach, it is organised around Mediterranean landscapes from around the world, and descends to a marine reserve where snorkelling is organised through the garden.
What is our favourite thing about La Londe-les-Maures?
Our favourite thing about La Londe is the drive along the Maures coast road at dusk, when the cork oaks throw long shadows across the road and the sea appears in glimpses between the trees. It has a quality of light and stillness at that hour that the more developed resorts to the east rarely achieve, and arriving at a quiet beach club in that mood is one of the better ways to end a day on the Var coast.

Useful information about La Londe-les-Maures
History and architecture
The Maures massif around La Londe is the oldest geological formation in Provence - Hercynian rock dating from around 300 million years ago. The coast developed as a wine-producing and fishing community. Cork oak harvesting still takes place in the massif.
Cultural attractions
Wine estate visits are the primary cultural draw. The Domaine du Rayol botanical garden is one of the finest cultural and natural institutions on the Var coast. Bormes-les-Mimosas, a short drive east, is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Natural beauty
The Maures massif provides a landscape of cork oak, chestnut and maritime pine unlike the limestone terrain of the rest of Provence. The coastal coves and beaches are among the least developed on the Var coast. The Domaine du Rayol marine reserve offers snorkelling of genuine quality.
