Château Léoube
Côte d'Azur / French Riviera > Cap Bénat
A PROVENÇAL SPIRIT - A UNIQUE LANDSCAPE
Set on the Cap Bénat, one of the most protected and unspoiled coastal sites in Europe, Léoube overlooks the Mediterranean in a setting of rare beauty. Just an hour from Saint-Tropez and beneath the hilltop village of Bormes-les-Mimosas, the estate faces the Golden Islands of Hyères.
Bordered by four kilometers of pristine coastline, Léoube is home to ancient oak and pine trees, wild coastal vegetation, and a rich natural habitat.
Here, land meets sea, and sea meets sky.
In the heart of the Côte d’Azur, within the Côtes de Provence appellation, the 560-hectare estate flourishes in a protected environment—where sea breezes, sunlight, and sheltering hills create the ideal conditions for a truly distinctive organic vineyard.
A TIMELESS PROVENÇAL TERROIR
Provence is home to some of the oldest vineyards in France—lands shaped over millennia by nature’s quiet transformation. Once covered by the sea, these soils are now deeply infused with minerals, giving the terroir of Léoube its distinctive strength and singular character.
FROM THE 14TH TO THE 18TH CENTURY
Château Léoube was built at the end of the 14th century, following the same architectural model as the nearby Château de Brégançon. For centuries, the estate remained part of the Brégançon seigniory, before becoming an independent patrimonial property in 1666.
FROM THE 18TH TO THE 20TH CENTURY
Over time, the estate passed through several hands. In 1921, it was acquired at auction by the Engelsen & Lebel family from the descendants of Emile Gérard, whose family had owned the property since 1840.
A NEW ERA
In 1997, the Bamford family acquired the estate, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Their vision was clear: to restore the land before anything else. Great care was devoted to the soil, through virtuous and sustainable agricultural practices. Only once this foundation was secured did the restoration of the cellar, the château, and the historic gardens begin.
