The Rotonde fountain in Aix-en-Provence
Aix-en-Provence is often referred to as the city of fountains. Strolling through the streets, visitors regularly come across fountains of various sizes, which have been part of the city's landscape since its development. Among them, the Fontaine de la Rotonde is considered one of the most recognizable.
Place de la Rotonde was created in seventeen seventy-seven. The aim was to establish a formal entrance to the city from the Cours Mirabeau, while opening up a route to Avignon and Marseille.
At the time, the difference in level between the square and the Cours Mirabeau was filled by the remains of the Palais Comtal, demolished shortly before the French Revolution due to its dilapidated state. A model of the former building can still be seen today in the Musée du Vieil Aix.
Set up in the dining room or on the terrace, this restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine for sharing, using fresh, seasonal produce.
The menu features dishes for sharing, with a friendly, accessible approach, and a focus on the quality of ingredients.
Every Thursday evening, the restaurant organizes a musical rendezvous, with live piano, subdued lighting and continuous service, creating the perfect setting for an extended dinner.
The whole offers a structured experience, combining cuisine, atmosphere and a slower pace, in the heart of Aix-en-Provence.
