August on the coast belongs to the evening.

Once the beaches empty, the Riviera lights up, with fireworks over the bay, electronic music on the sand and candlelit gardens above the sea. For guests staying with us along the coast this month, here are the nights worth planning around, grouped by what they do best: fire, music and the scent of the season.

The Riviera after dark

Festival d'Art Pyrotechnique, Cannes | 4th, 15th and 24th August

Cannes has staged its international fireworks competition over the bay since 1967. Six evenings are fired across the summer, and three of them fall in August, on the 4th, 15th and 24th. Each night at 10pm a different country presents a show of around 25 minutes choreographed to music, with a jury awarding the prizes and the audience voting for its favourite. This year the August line-up runs from France's Aquarêve to Sweden's Joho Pyro and the Czech Flash Barrandov. La Croisette offers one of the best free views on the coast.

Festival Pyromélodique, Antibes–Juan-les-Pins | 6th, 13th, 20th and 24th August

A short hop along the coast, Antibes answers Cannes with its own free musical fireworks over the Bay of Juan-les-Pins, on the Thursdays of 6, 13 and 20 August at 10pm, with a final display along the Antibes seafront, between the Fort Carré and the beaches of La Brague, on the 24th. Between this and the Cannes competition, there is scarcely a week in August without fireworks somewhere over the water.

Monaco Art en Ciel | Two evenings in August

Along the coast in the other direction, Monaco has run its own musical fireworks competition since 1966, fired over Port Hercule. Two of the four summer evenings fall in August, beginning around half past nine, and the displays can be watched for free from the quaysides and the ramparts of Fort Antoine. It is well worth pairing with an evening in the principality; do check the exact August dates before you set out.

Grande Nuit Vénitienne, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat | Saturday 1st August

For one night at the very start of the month, the little peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is given over to a Venetian celebration. From early evening there are masks to buy and workshops on the quay; the costumed parade of nearly a hundred performers, flag-throwers and musicians winds through the village and along the port from a quarter to nine, with fireworks over the water at half past ten and dancing until one. It is a quieter, more local affair than the grand competitions, and all the more charming for it.

Music by the sea

Les Plages Électroniques, Cannes | 7th to 9th August

The Riviera's biggest electronic music festival celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, three days of music on the beach beside the Palais des Festivals. The 2026 line-up is led by Martin Garrix on the Friday, Marshmello and Amélie Lens on the Saturday, and DJ Snake closing the Sunday with an eight-hour "Pardon My French" set, with more than 60 artists across the weekend and gates from two in the afternoon. Few festivals put the sea quite so literally at your feet.

Jazz au Château, Cagnes-sur-Mer | Friday 14th August

Up in the old village of Haut-de-Cagnes, the Place du Château becomes an open-air jazz stage every Friday evening at 9pm through the summer, and admission is free. On 14 August the Dutch soul-groove big band Licks and Brains take the stage, with French classics such as La Vie en Rose reworked for the occasion. It is an intimate setting beneath the medieval walls, so arrive in good time for a place.

Festival de Musique de Menton | To 7th August

If you prefer your music classical, Menton's celebrated festival runs into the first week of August, with concerts on the open-air Parvis of the Basilique Saint-Michel-Archange, above the sea, and at the Palais de l'Europe. The closing night on 7 August brings the Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal de Versailles to the Parvis, a fine chance to hear a world-class ensemble beneath the stars before the festival ends for another year.

Les Nocturnes, Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild | To 25th August

Every Monday and Tuesday evening, the gardens of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat open by candlelight, from 8pm until midnight, with the performance itself beginning around nine, for ballet, jazz and song. Settle on the lawns with your own picnic or reserve a hamper in advance for 65 euros. Tickets are 40 euros for adults and 20 euros for children. It is perhaps the most romantic evening on the coast.

Around the Gulf of Saint-Tropez

Festival de Ramatuelle | 1st to 12th August

Just inland from Saint-Tropez, the hilltop village of Ramatuelle stages one of the coast's best-loved cultural gatherings in its open-air amphitheatre among the pines. For its 41st edition, from 1 to 12 August, the programme moves between theatre, comedy and music, with evenings this year from the likes of Jeanne Cherhal, on 8 August, and Bénabar. Performances begin at half past nine, once the sun is safely down.

Les Grimaldines, Grimaud | 4th and 11th August

Above the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, the medieval village of Grimaud gives its summer Tuesday evenings to Les Grimaldines. Free musical strolls wind up through the old streets from seven in the evening to the foot of the castle, where a ticketed world-music concert, from 20 to 35 euros, brings the night to a close, Kareen Guiock Thuram on the 4th and Ayom on the 11th. The walk up alone, with the village lit and the gulf below, is worth the trip.

Flowers and footlights

Fête du Jasmin, Grasse | 31st July to 2nd August

The perfume capital of Grasse has honoured its jasmine harvest since 1946, and this year marks the 80th edition. Across three days the streets fill with music, dancing and a great parade of flower-covered floats, with thousands of blooms thrown to the crowd and firefighters spraying jasmine water over everyone. Entry is free, and the grand corso and flower battle on the Saturday, 1 August, from nine until midnight, is the moment to be there.

Les Théâtrales d'Èze | 1st to 5th August

High on the Grande Corniche, the hilltop village of Èze stages five evenings of open-air theatre at the Oppidum du Col d'Èze, with this year's programme including Molière's Le Malade imaginaire. Live music and local food from seven in the evening make it an easy night out with one of the finest views on the coast; tickets are 35 euros, or 15 for under-eighteens.

Through it all, the Cannes night markets run along the Croisette until the end of the month, perfect for an evening stroll. And looking ahead, the Cannes Yachting Festival returns from 8th to 13th September, when more than 700 boats fill the harbours. Wherever the month takes you, every one of these is within easy reach of your Provence Holidays home, and our team is always happy to help you plan.

À bientôt,
