Where wine, landscape and cycling come together

Pierre and Boris, founders of an exceptional bike tour experience in Provenve, first met at a café in Sorgues. Pierre was running his own micro-enterprise and thinking carefully about how to develop it sustainably. Boris, whose approach to wine and the land immediately stood out, did not yet have a clear place within that structure. What followed was a period of reflection, a few shared projects, and a growing sense that something more meaningful could take shape. Join us in this blog as we explore the story and the journey of Pierre and Boris, whose shared outlook on wine, land and pace led to a different way of experiencing Provence.

BOOK THIS EXPERIENCE

A philosophy built on encounter and simplicity

The philosophy behind this experience is deliberately straightforward. Discovery, simplicity and attention to landscape guide every route. The bicycle is not the goal, but the means. It allows participants to move quietly through vineyards, fields and villages, to notice changes in light, smell and terrain, and to arrive at producers without separation.

For Boris, the priority is always the people behind the products. Vignerons, cheesemakers, olive oil producers, chocolatiers and farmers are chosen not for reputation, but for authenticity and commitment. Many are discreet figures who work away from the spotlight, yet carry deep knowledge and strong values. These exchanges are what give the tours their depth.

The history of this experience

After working together on occasional assignments, Pierre realised that what he appreciated most was Boris’s way of working. His relationship with wine, his curiosity and his respect for producers aligned naturally with Pierre’s own values. A second meeting followed, and with it a simple question. Why not create cycling tours that focus on meeting local producers and understanding Provençal terroir at ground level? Boris immediately recognised the potential. Routes, logistics and producer partnerships soon took shape, and 18 months later this experience was born. For Boris, the project felt almost inevitable. Years spent travelling through Provence had created a pattern he could not ignore. Slowing down, taking smaller roads, meeting producers and sharing those moments with others consistently turned simple outings into lasting experiences

Backgrounds shaped by wine, land and transmission

Boris grew up in Champagne, surrounded by vineyards and wine traditions that left a lasting impression. His studies later took him to Burgundy and Bordeaux, deepening his understanding of wine and regional identity. It was in Provence, and particularly the Alpilles, that he felt a genuine pull. The combination of gastronomy, landscape and the openness of local producers convinced him to settle in Avignon, where he worked with several wine estates and continued to develop his approach.

Alongside his work in viticulture, experience in restaurants reinforced what mattered most to him. Transmission. Guiding, explaining, sharing stories and creating moments that stay with people. This experience offered a way to bring all of that together. Pierre’s path, through Winovin and years spent working closely with wine and producers, brought a complementary perspective. Where Boris focused on narrative and encounter, Pierre emphasised simplicity, rhythm and the beauty of landscapes. Together, they found a balance that defines their tours today.

What to expect | A day on the road

What sets this experience apart is the pace. Moving through Provence by bike changes the relationship with the landscape. Time stretches, senses sharpen, and encounters feel more natural. Wine tastings become conversations. Farm visits become moments of exchange rather than stops on an itinerary. Each route is designed to avoid main roads and prioritise small country lanes, making the ride as enjoyable as the destinations themselves. Provence reveals itself gradually, through colour, scent and sound, rather than through highlights alone. Each experience begins at a wine estate, where the route forms a loop through the surrounding countryside. Depending on the chosen format, the day unfolds differently. Half-day tours typically include a visit to a wine producer and a farm, offering insight into both viticulture and local food production. Full-day tours expand this to include two wine estates and two farms, with a shared meal among the vines, built around local products and conversation. For those drawn to atmosphere as much as flavour, the sunset tour offers a different rhythm. Cycling at the end of the day, when the light softens and the air cools, finishes with an aperitif in the vineyards, combining local produce with a relaxed, communal mood. Across all formats, the intention remains the same. To take time, to listen, and to allow Provence to reveal itself naturally.

Routes close to the heart

Some routes carry particular meaning. The Alpilles circuit holds a special place for both Pierre and Boris, as the landscape where the project first took shape. It reflects the full spirit of the company, combining striking scenery, committed producers and the simple pleasure of cycling together. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape route also stands out, pairing wine with chocolate in a way that feels generous and unexpected. It captures their desire to create experiences that are both grounded and slightly surprising, without feeling forced.

Like any experience rooted in real life, not everything goes exactly to plan. Pierre recalls his very first solo tour, marked by two punctures and a lack of proper equipment. What could have been a disaster turned into a shared memory, ending the day with laughter and a beer in a village café. Boris remembers a visit to a goat farm, where an enthusiastic participant volunteered to try milking, only to choose the wrong animal. The resulting confusion, laughter and good-natured embarrassment became a story retold long after the ride ended. These moments, unplanned and human, capture the essence of Terroir à Vélo more than any route description.

I think we can all agree that this experience is about attention, connection and the pleasure of sharing Provence as it is lived, not staged.
