Description

Villa for rent Provence for 6 people

What we like

Period Features: this lovely old Provence house retains the much desired old floor-tiles and has recycled parts of the old stables in the bar. Its stone walls keep the entire building cool in summer.
Chef's Kitchen: here, you'll have everything you need to cook up some delicious dishes.
Ensuite Bedrooms: each spacious bedroom boasts its own private bathroom.

Things to note

Country Life: the property is in the countryside and not fenced in, so supervision of small children is necessary.

Exterior

At the front of the house and facing south is the gravelled terrace with dining table and barbecue, under the deep shade of a venerable plane tree. Beyond the terrace is the pool with sunloungers alongside, and then the grassy garden covers 2 acres and has views of the villages of Gordes and Roussillon. The property also benefits from a ping pong table and plenty of parking to the side of the house.

Interior

La Maison de Joucas is a typical Provençal country house with generous proportions, a gorgeous terrace under a grand shading plane tree and original features like the ancient floor tiles. The house dates to the early 18th century and features a cosy bar made from a stone drinking trough and a kitchen fit for a professional. The house’s stone walls keep the inside notably cool in the summer.
Living Room: with seating around the fireplace and TV at one end, and dining table at the other, the room has large windows facing south which let the light flood in.
Kitchen: the kitchen is perfect for keen cooks, with its professional gas cooker/oven, and stainless steel worktops. There is also a more simple combi oven/microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, and both Nespresso and Senseo coffee makers.
Bar: the entrance to the house, in a nod to its former life as a stables, has been converted into a convivial bar room with a stone water trough as the bar and hay racks on the wall.
Laundry: next to the kitchen with washing machine and dryer.
Guest WC: downstairs guest WC.

Bedrooms

This charming holiday rental sleeps 6 people in 3 ensuite bathrooms, all located on the first floor.

Bedroom 1: with king-sized double bed which can be converted into 2 single beds upon request, pedestal bath, basin and separate WC.
Bedroom 2: with king-sized double bed which can be converted into 2 single beds upon request and ensuite bathroom with shower and basin.

There is an independent WC on the landing for bedrooms 2 and 3.

Excellent
score

Very good service and full refund as promised, highly recommend
score

Unfortunately we didn't get to our beautiful villa in Provence thanks to Coronavirus, but Simon and his team were very helpful during the booking process and then brilliant at handling the cancellation and swift refund. We booked only a month before we were due to travel and only did so because we felt confident in Provence holidays promise of a refund should travel be restricted. They absolutely delivered on their promise to refund and I wouldn't hesitate to rebook with Provence Holidays in the future. We hope we will be able to make it to La Maison de Joucas next year!

My Idea of Heaven
score

This house is absolutely stunning, a rare find. The sort you think you may only see in magazines. I was surrounded by french elegance and style and loved padding along the original stone floors pretending I lived there. I never really wanted to venture far because it was just so lovely right there. Pure luxury envelopes you, I felt like a princess. My bedroom was a tranquil haven, scented with freshly picked lavender and beautifully decorated in white and beautiful grey with incredible views across the vines up to Joucas. Poke your head out of the window at night and enjoy the fresh air of Provence! The rain-shower and supersoft white towels, a spa like treat. The pool is fabulous, set away from the house with open views of the hills soaring up around you, with only crickets for company. A very special stay.
