Les Canetons
Côte d'Azur / French Riviera > Le Lavandou
Les Canetons in Cavalière is a beach club with three generations of history behind it. Set in a bay with a more rugged feel than the usual Riviera addresses, it combines private beach service, swimming, and a serious restaurant offer.
Les Canetons has kept a family spirit at the centre of its identity since 1953. The setting is straightforward and well kept, with wooden furniture, blue and white tones, and parasols that give the beach a clean, orderly look. Sunbeds are arranged for comfort, with thick mattresses and enough shade for a proper break between swims. The atmosphere is balanced rather than loud. There is movement, but the place still feels controlled and calm, which suits its long-standing history. The bay at Cavalière adds character to the experience, with clear water, a wider natural backdrop, and a more discreet pace than many busier Riviera beaches. It is the sort of place where the day can move from swimming to lunch to a quiet pause without any fuss.
The restaurant
The restaurant focuses on local, responsible, seasonal cooking with a Mediterranean base and a few travel-inspired touches. The menu is built around produce-led dishes and covers sharing plates, fresh starters, seafood, meat, pasta, and desserts, so it works well for a long lunch by the water. Expect dishes such as burrata from Puglia, Thai tuna tartare with ginger sauce, royal sea bream fillet with tzatziki, and fresh pasta with prawns and bisque. There are also land-based options such as Charolais flank steak with a soy glaze and a chicken roll served with truffle mayonnaise. For dessert, the kitchen turns out house-made plates including orange blossom French toast with salted caramel, chocolate cream puff with dulce de leche, and strawberries with mascarpone mousse, basil, and meringue. The menu changes with the season, which keeps it practical rather than predictable.
