Séguret, Haut Vaucluse

The village of Séguret sits on the side of a steep, rocky hill, blessed with stunning views of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Séguret is listed among the most attractive in France; it is filled with charm and history.

What makes this village special?

Séguret is officially one of France’s most beautiful villages, a status merited for its spectacular panoramic views, idyllic surroundings and preserved stone buildings. The Old Town is full of elegance, featuring old defensive structures, a Romanesque church, a belfry from the 1300s and a charming central square. As the setting is quite steep, there are impressive views to be had from various parts of Séguret, but especially the church square. The Dentelles de Montmirail the nearby mountain range, with an unusual, jagged profile. It caters to a host of adventure sports, but especially climbing, with more than 600 routes offered. The GR4 hiking trail snakes through the range and provides a tough but rewarding challenge for walkers, as the views here are incredible. Adventurous mountain bikers could head across to Mont Ventoux, the highest peak in the region, but with relatively gentle slopes. Winemaking has been a part of local life since ancient times, and is one of 17 AOC locations that come under the Côtes du Rhône Villages label. It’s an area known for its deep, full-bodied reds, and excellent Rosé wines that are recognised as a great accompaniment to meat and cheese. Truffles are also a highly-regarded local product, and are strongly associated with the nearby towns of Carpentras and Richerenches, Just north of Séguret is the town of Vaison-la-Romaine, where a Roman city has been discovered. You can see paved streets, villas, a theatre and spa here. An easy drive southwest is the lovely city of Orange, where you’ll be able to visit one of the best theatres to be found anywhere in the Roman world. Avignon. A superb destination for a day out is the city, blessed with sublime medieval heritage listed as a UNESCO site. The undoubted centrepiece is the Palace of the Popes, possible the best piece of Gothic architecture in the world and open for sightseeing tours. Another top sight is the legendary Pont d’Avignon (brirdge), of which only a fragment of the original 12th Century structure remains.

Séguret is known for its charming medieval architecture, including narrow streets, ancient stone buildings, and a 14th-century castle. The village is also home to several restaurants, cafes, and shops, making it a popular destination for tourists.

In addition to its architectural and cultural attractions, Séguret is surrounded by vineyards and is known for producing some of the finest wines in the region. Visitors can take tours of local wineries and taste the area's famous Côtes du Rhône wines.
