Sarrians, Provence des Papes

In the heart of the Comtat Venaissin, between Orange and Carpentras, the village of Sarrians offers a pleasant stay in the heart of the Provençal countryside, a stone's throw from the Dentelles de Montmirail. It has an interesting historical heritage and is the ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding towns and villages.

What makes this village special?

Sarrians was built around its first church erected in 1034 and consecrated three years later. The Saint-Pierre-et-Paul church is therefore one of the oldest in the region and it has an impressive dome on squinches. The heart of the village has preserved some vestiges of the past such as the ramparts and very beautiful old residences. Château Tourreau is reputed to be one of the most beautiful in Provence. It dates from the 18th century and is worth a look for its magnificent architecture and its wooded park.

Don't miss the large Sunday morning market and the small farmers' markets, Tuesday and Saturday mornings and, in season, Wednesday evenings from 5 p.m. This is an opportunity to buy the best local products and enjoy yourself!

The wine-growing activity is very important in Sarrians, which has 14 estates producing wines as well as local wines. An easy hike is also offered to people wishing to learn more about the agricultural region. This is the loop of castles, which requires half a day to complete the 12 kilometers on flat ground, passing by the castle Verclos, a former seigneury of 1549, the river Ouvèze, the farm of Saint-Privas, the domain of the Great Monkey and the castle of Tourreau.

Cyclists and walkers will take the Via Venaissia, a 14-kilometre greenway, which offers magnificent landscapes of the Ouvèze, the vineyards and the Dentelles de Montmirail. The countryside has never been so beautiful!
